Celebrity Breakups that Rocked Hollywood in Recent Years

As anyone who follows celebrity culture knows, the relationships of the rich and famous often don’t last long. However, it seems like recent years have been especially hard on these relationships, leading to some shocking celebrity breakups.

These celebrity breakups run the gamut from marriages and long-term relationships imploding to broken engagements, and months-long pandemic hookups falling apart. However, it’s not all bad. In the wreckage of one of these breakups,  one of the most famous celebrity relationships of the early 2000s rose from the ashes like a phoenix (back tattoo).

Let us know if we missed any major celebrity relationships that ended in the last several years.

A-Rod & J.Lo

The split between baseball legend Alex Rodriguez and all-around entertainment legend Jennifer Lopez was probably the most shocking of 2021. The super-couple first got together in 2017, and were quite public with their mutual affection for each other on social media. The duo got engaged in 2019, and seemed prepared for “happily ever after.” However, after a failed bid to purchase the New York Mets (oh those billionaires and their whacky hobbies) they split, allegedly at J.Lo’s insistence. Months later, she reunited with Ben Affleck for “Bennifer 2.0.”

Megan Fox & Brian Austin Greene

The relationship between Transformers actress Fox and 9010 actor Green had a long history of breakups and make-ups over the years. However, by 2019 the married couple seemed to have settled down with their three children. However, wedded bliss would not last as Fox led the marriage in late 2019.

Rihanna & Hassan Jameel

Rihanna began dating Hassan Jameel in 2016, shocking many fans who’d never heard of the Saudi Arabian billionaire. Ryan Seacrest & Shayna Taylor

The summer 2020 split of television host Ryan Seacrest and Shayna Taylor shouldn’t have come as a shock to those who were paying attention. The couple had split three times over the course of their three year relationship.

Rebel Wilson & Jacob Busch

Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson and Anheuser-Busch heir Jacob Busch got together at an indeterminate point in the last several years. However, the global COVID pandemic combines with the age difference between the two (she’s in her early 40s, he’s in his late 20s) took a toll on the couple, and they’d split by early 2021.

John Mulaney & Anna Marie Tendler

For years, comedian John Mulaney had spoken openly about how his wife Annamarie Tendler AKA Annamarie Tendler stood by him through addiction and mental health issues. Zoë Kravitz & Karl Glusman

In 2019, Zoe Kravitz married Karl Glusman in a lavish ceremony on her father, rock star Lenny Kravit’s Paris estate. Kim Kardashian & Kanye West

All due respect to the other couples on our list, but there was no bigger in late 2010s pop culture than “Kimye.” The relationship between Kardashian and West was documented everywhere from reality television to tabloids from the duo’s inception in 2012, their marriage in 2014, and the north of their children. For his part, Sudeikis said of the breakup, “I’ll have a better understanding of why in a year, and an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five, and it’ll go from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle.”

Tiffany & Rob Riggle

Comedian Rob Riggle’s wife Tiffany filed for divorce in 2020 after over two decades of marriage.
